When marketing, follow these best practices:
- Know your intended audience and their needs and concerns before marketing to them
- Use graphics, images, and lots of white space
- Be succinct (one or two points at most)
- Break up text into easily digestible formats (i.e., short paragraphs, bulleted lists, bolded emphasis)
- Create a story or narrative that supports the data
- Focus the message on impacts beyond just cost savings (i.e. what is the impact on student success)
- Individualize messages
- Focus on the positive (and indicate that we are here to support)
- Use a little peer pressure (When possible, indicate when/where others relevant to the target audience have used/created OER)
- Build trust and show our expertise
- Follow-up (Reiterate the message and provide more information when requested)
