Mortuary science is the study of embalming, the preparation of human remains for burial and cremation, and funeral directing. Those who successfully complete the Mortuary Science program, which includes passing the National Board Exam, are prepared to operate a funeral establishment or to serve as a pathologist's assistant, autopsy assistant, anatomical embalmer, anatomical technician, or thanatologist's assistant.
