Planning a Video

Getting Consent to Film

Before you start filming anywhere, make sure you know the rules for that location. Some places have specific guidelines about photography and video recording. It’s a good idea to check out your filming spots ahead of time and reach out to property managers or staff to ask about any restrictions.

While you generally have the right to film in public places and capture things that are in plain sight, it’s important to respect people’s privacy. Whenever possible, try to get permission from anyone who might appear in your video. Introduce yourself, explain what you’re working on, and let them know how you plan to use the footage. You can also share your contact info and let them know when you’ll be filming. This helps keep things transparent for everyone involved.
