I know what you’re probably thinking. Now that the school year is over, why would anyone want to add more reading to their plate? Or, maybe you’re thinking you’re excited to finally have time to read for fun. No matter which perspective you take, I’m here to tell you that a good summer read adds a little something special to the warmer months.
What makes a good summer read? I’m glad you asked! Despite the age-old saying, I sometimes tend to judge books by their cover. I am a sucker for a pretty cover, but I also consider whether a book is hardcover or paperback. Don’t get me wrong - I love a good hardcover book, but paperbacks are much easier to throw into a carry-on or small backpack for easy transportation. Summer reads can also be great adventure stories, ones that can transport us to places we’ve never been or places we dream about seeing again. And, of course, what’s summer without a good romantic comedy? Truthfully though, the real secret to what makes something a summer read is that it’s something YOU want to read during the summer, no matter the content.
Featured below are books being released this summer that I am excited about. They come from several different genres including historical fiction, mysteries/thrillers, fantasy, sci-fi, non-fiction, and romance, so there should be something for everyone.
Whether you’re headed to the beach, a park, a nice cafe or the familiarity of your own couch this summer, be sure to grab one of these gems!
