This guide is intended to help students cite their sources according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition (2010).

Classical Works (p. 178-179)

Classical works such as the Bible or Qur'an and other religious texts are often cited in-text and not in the References list.

General Format

In-Text Citation (Paraphrase):

(Name of the Book (often abbreviated) Chapter:Verse [if applicable] Version being Cited [if applicable])

NOTE: If you are only using one version of a classical work, you can include the Version in the first in-text citation and not in any subsequent citations (p. 179).

 

In-Text Citation (Quotation):

(Name of the Book (often abbreviated) Chapter:Verse [if applicable] Version being Cited [if applicable])

 

References:

Do not include in References list.

In-Text Citation (Paraphrase):

(6 Rev. 5.3 King James Version)

 

In-Text Citation (Quotation):

(6 Rev. 5.3 King James Version)

 

References:

Do not include in References list.
