Library Orientation

Use this guide for an orientation to the UDC Library's resources and services and for tips on starting and completing a research project.

Computer Use

Computers with a variety of software installed are available for student use in the library. Students must have their UDC OneCard to log into computers. There is no time limit for computer use.

The UDC Library's Van Ness location has a work station for users with visual disabilities that includes a computer equipped with JAWS, Magic, and OpenBook software; a low-vision, large print keyboard; a digital scanner; and a document viewer. Our 801 North Capitol Street location has a work station for users with visual disabilities that includes a computer equipped with AWS, Magic, and OpenBook software; a low-vision, large-print keyboard; and a digital scanner.

Reference and Research Support

UDC librarians provide reference and research support at both the Van Ness and 801 North Capitol street library locations.

Ask us about:

  • Finding and using books and other library materials
  • Identifying a research topic/question
  • Searching for information/sources for research
  • Using library databases
  • Evaluating information
  • Citing sources
  • Any other questions you have about the library!

Here's how you can get help from UDC librarians:

Printing, Copying, and Scanning

Printers and a copier/scanner are available at both the Van Ness and 801 North Capitol Street locations. Printing and copies are $0.10 per page. Scans can be sent via email, or saved directly to a USB drive.

Only black and white printing is available at this time. Users must have their UDC OneCards to use the copier/scanner.

Detailed directions on how to copy, print, and scan are available on the library's FAQ page.

Media Desk

UDC faculty can request laptops, projectors, DVD players, and public address systems from the Learning Resource Division's Media Desk. All media equipment requests are managed through the 25Live room booking system. Contact your department scheduler for assistance in placing a room booking with equipment. Room requests entered in 25Live are approved, and then equipment bookings are processed by UDC Library media staff.

Please see the Media Desk page on the Faculty Resources guide for details.
