Library Orientation

Use this guide for an orientation to the UDC Library's resources and services and for tips on starting and completing a research project.

Accessibility at the Library

The UDC Library on the Van Ness campus has a work station including a computer equipped with JAWS, Magic, and OpenBook software; a low-vision, large print keyboard; a digital scanner; and a document viewer. The library space at the 801 North Capitol Street Community College location has a work station including a computer equipped with AWS, Magic, and OpenBook software; a low-vision, large-print keyboard; and a digital scanner. 

Video tutorials on the UDC Library YouTube channel are captioned. 

The UDC Library spaces on the Van Ness and 801 North Capitol Street Community College campuses are wheelchair accessible. Library staff and faculty are available to retrieve material which may be difficult to access.

Many full-text articles are published in an Adobe PDF format that can be automatically converted from text to speech. Adobe Reader includes a read aloud function (under the View menu). Additionally, many of our online resources have text-to-speech capabilities for some or all full-text content.

Your Library Account

Log into your My Library Account using your UDC email and password to:

  • Renew books or check on due dates
  • Check the status of consortium loan items
  • Save links to frequently-used databases and electronic journals
  • See your saved searches
  • Sign up for text and e-mail alerts
  • Access and submit Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests

UDC students, faculty, and staff  should log in as "External Users."

Using the Library's Resources Off Campus

Most of the library's online resources, such as article databases and e-books, can be used off-campus anywhere you have access to the internet.

To access these items from off campus, you must use the links provided on the library website then log in using your UDC email and password. If prompted, UDC students, faculty, and staff are EXTERNAL users.

Wifi in the Library

Wireless internet is available to everyone at the UDC Library!

UDC students, faculty, and staff can access wifi by logging into the UDCWIFI or UDCSECURE networks using their UDC email and password. 

Campus visitors can use the UDC Wi-Fi portal to self-register for guest wifi access.
