Finals week is near. Take a deep breath; you've got this, Firebirds! Everyone has their preferred way to study. Here are a few of our favorite tips. Share yours in the comments!
Cut Out Distractions - Turn your phone off. Mute all notifications. Close the door. Do whatever you can to carve out an hour or two to just focus on your work.
Take Notes - Highlight your reading and write notes in the margins. Put things in your own words to help you remember the material.
Buddy Up - Get together with a friend or group of classmates. Talk out the material together. Share problems and solutions to help you better grasp and remember the information.
Find a Soundtrack - Find the sounds that work for you. If you like silence, get some earplugs or noise cancelling headphones. If you like a busy background, put on a coffeeshop website or try some ASMR. Video game music is designed to keep you focused for long periods of time.
Set the Scene - Turn on the lights and try to avoid studying in bed. If you're cozy under the covers, the temptation of a nap may prove too much.
Set Mini Goals - Break down subjects or projects into mini goals. Reward yourself with a break or small treat after you reach one.
Doodle! - Doodling in your notes can help you put a visual image to the material with makes it easier to remember.
Practice - Some subjects have practice tests, quizzes, or essay. Try one or two to help you see what you might encounter.
And don't forget to take breaks, sleep, and celebrate! Rest is important for memory retention and celebrating is just plain fun.
